My Projects

Orchestra da Tre Soldi

I'm the founder and leader of Orchestra da Tre Soldi, an ensemble formed by very skilled and talented professionals. In many years of activity we have played in important theaters and festivals in Italy and abroad (France, Switzerland, Romania).
We propose a very original fusion between jazz, classical suggestions, reinterpretations of Kurt Weill, echoes of popular music from all over the world, and original compositions.

"JazzIT" recently reviewed one of our concerts (2018): "Music without borders, without labels, crystalline melodies, perfect arrangements, performing mastery, airy and lyrical atmospheres, all this has this fantastic band of which we will hear for a long time to speak."

Ambos Mundos

AmbosMundos is an instrumental quartet (accordion, violin, acoustic guitar, percussion) that I founded in 2019.
It proposes, in a playlist made of original compositions and pieces by great authors (Piazzolla, Galliano, Chico Buarque), a peculiar musical synthesis between World music and Jazz language: echoes of Brazil, Argentina, France, Spain and Gipsy suggestions in an amazing journey through the sounds of the world.

Lineup:
Matteo Castellan - Accordion
Giulia Subba - Violin
Enrico Degani - Acoustic Guitar
Adriano De Micco - Percussions

Matteo Castellan - Giulia Subba Duo

"A duo that sounds like an Orchestra"

This duo is a meeting point between the warmth and immediacy of the Folk music of the world and the elegance and freedom of Jazz.
Many musical traditions claim the accordion and the violin as their own instruments, from the Argentinian tango to the Brazilian chorro, to the French musette to our Italian roots. We "play" with all of them, bringing the viewer into a pleasant journey through traditional songs, original compositions and music by such authors as Richard Galliano, Astor Piazzolla, Dominguinhos.

In 2019 we've had a European tour featuring events in Berlin, Munich, Lyon, Paris. We held various concerts too in venues and festivals around Italy, and we played live for Drama shows with very well known actors (Anna Maria Guarnieri, Matthias Martelli).

Lascia che sia felice

"Lascia che sia felice" ("Let me be happy", the title of a Pablo Neruda's poem) is a duo project with the wonderful actress and singer Stefania Rosso.
It's based on poetry with musical accompaniment (on piano and accordion): Neruda, Bukowsky, Zimborjska, Montale and other greats.
And songs: songs by Tracy Chapman, Prevert, Patti Pravo and other Italian and international authors.

We had many gigs around Italy, and a new album is coming soon.

Here's an essay of our work:

Mitalastrada

Mitalastrada is a project focused on traditional and folk music from all over Italy.
It features the sublime singer and percussionist Valeria Benigni, Massimiliano Gilli at the violin, Giuliano Contardo at the guitar and me at the accordion, arrangements and background voices.
We played often in Italy and twice in France (Epernay end Ay).

Here's the review of one of our concerts:
"A fascinating journey through Italy: from melodies of the Occitan Valley of Piedmont to hypnotic Calabrian and Sicilian songs, from the evocative sweetness of Neapolitan chants to the pure joy of the pizzica salentina rhythms and the songs of the ancient workers of the Po Valley. Music that lives "mita' la strada" - in the middle of the road - where often it happens to be in the old Italian songs." - L'Union, French newspaper
